The guide to your wedding day hair preparation

Prepping your hair is essential in how your hair will look and hold on your wedding day. Dirty hair is not better, it’s actually worse. Hair that is dirty has more oil, product build-up, and heaviness; making holding curls and volume more difficult. Most prefer styles to have fullness and movement, the best way to achieve this is through clean hair. Dirty hair does not have movement and will give a more flat weighted style.

I normally recommend washing and drying the night before (this may be different in some instances such as natural curl textures who wish to use their natural curl). I use a custom cocktail of products to give your clean hair the grit and grip where it’s needed. Follow the steps below for the best results.

Step One: Shampoo Hair

The night before or the morning of (depending on your hairs texture) shampoo hair twice using a deep cleaning shampoo. Proceed with conditioner only once on the mid-length to ends. If you have fine silky hair, I suggest skipping on the conditioner. Be sure to rinse the hair throughly so no residue is left behind. Left over shampoo and conditioner can become a problem when styling.

Step Two: Dry Hair

Before your began drying you can apply some volumizing mousse at the root area only. This will help with volume. Then give yourself a smooth blow-dry. When drying be sure your hairdryer is pointed directly downwards getting the root to ends smoothed out. If this is hard for you, you may want to have a professional blow-out done. Ensure your hair is FULLY dry, this is so important and a must for timing set out for you to stay on schedule and could cause delays.

Step Three: No Styling Products or Heating Tools

Once your hair is fully dry, do not apply and other products or use heating tools prior to the stylist arrival. This could affect the style in which we wish to create. Be sure you also notify the bridal stylist prior of any allergies known to hair products/ brands for yourself or anyone receiving hair services.

Bridal Preview Tip

To get the most out of your preview, wear a white elegant top similar to the neckline of your dress and have your makeup on. Bring any hair inspirations you may have in mind, earrings, hair accessories or veils you have and plan to wear. This way you can better imagine how your complete look will be on the big day.
